Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 14 September 2026
These Terms and Conditions govern the moving, transport and packing supply services provided by Central Transport & Relocation, the trading name of Central Cars and Transport Limited (NZBN 9429052274893), 19 Mills Street, Boulcott, Lower Hutt (referred to as “we”, “us” or “our”). By confirming a booking with us, you (“the Customer”) agree to be bound by these terms and our Booking Policy.
1. Services
- We provide house, apartment and office moving services across Wellington, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, the Kapiti Coast and the Wairarapa, together with packing supplies and, where arranged, packing services.
- Our services are door-to-door unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- We reserve the right to decline any booking at our discretion, including items that are unsafe to lift or transport, or a job that is not as described when the quote was given.
2. Quotes and pricing
- Quotes are based on the information you give us, including the amount of furniture, access at both addresses (stairs, lifts, driveways, parking) and distance.
- Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue unless otherwise stated.
- Hourly moves are charged from when we arrive at your pickup address until the last item is unloaded. The minimum charge is set out in your quote.
- Fixed-price quotes cover the items and access described when the quote was given. If the job is materially different on the day (for example extra items, unexpected stairs or no parking nearby) we will talk to you before any extra charges apply.
- We reserve the right to adjust pricing if the details provided are inaccurate, for example the volume of items, access or the condition of items to be moved.
- All prices are in New Zealand dollars and exclude GST.
3. Bookings, deposit and payment
- Bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
- A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking. Your booking is not confirmed until the deposit has been received. The deposit is deducted from your final invoice.
- The remaining balance is due on completion of the move, unless we have agreed other terms in writing (for example, invoiced accounts for business customers).
- Payment is accepted by bank transfer or cash. Bank account details are provided with your booking confirmation.
- If payment is overdue we may charge reasonable debt collection costs.
4. Your responsibilities
- Give us accurate details about your move, the pickup and delivery addresses and your contact details, and tell us about heavy, bulky or high-value items (such as pianos, safes, pool tables or large appliances) when you request a quote.
- Disclose any existing damage to, or weakness in, items you want us to move at the time of booking.
- Arrange access at both addresses, including lift bookings, building manager approval and a legal place for our truck to park. Any parking fines or permit costs caused by a lack of access are your responsibility.
- Have everything packed, sealed and ready when we arrive, unless you have booked packing with us.
- Defrost and dry fridges and freezers, drain washing machines and fit transit bolts where needed, and empty drawers of fragile or heavy contents.
- Arrange disconnection and reconnection of gas, plumbing, electrical and wall-mounted items (such as TVs) by a qualified person. We do not do this work.
- Make sure you or someone you authorise is present at pickup and delivery to check items and sign off the job, and that you have the legal authority to arrange the move of everything we carry.
- Notify us immediately of any changes to your booking details.
5. Items we do not carry
For safety and legal reasons we will not move: gas bottles, fuel, paint, chemicals, ammunition, fireworks and other dangerous goods; perishable food; animals; illegal items; or anything that would be unsafe to lift or transport. Please move cash, jewellery, important documents, medication, keys and irreplaceable items yourself. We are not responsible for any such items left in furniture or boxes.
6. Condition of goods and inspection
- We may photograph and note the condition of furniture and large items at pickup and delivery. This record is treated as an accurate account of the condition of your goods.
- Any pre-existing damage must be disclosed before the move. Undisclosed damage identified at pickup will be noted and is not our responsibility.
- Please check your items at delivery and point out any obvious damage before our team leaves.
7. Care of your goods and our liability
We wrap, pad and strap furniture and take every reasonable care of the goods we move. Moving services are a carriage of goods under Part 5 of the Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017. Unless we agree otherwise in writing, we carry your goods at “limited carrier’s risk”, which means our liability for loss of or damage to goods is limited to a maximum of $2,000 per unit of goods (for example, one item of furniture or one box), and only where the loss or damage is caused by us.
We are not liable for:
- Pre-existing damage, wear and tear, or damage caused by an undisclosed weakness or fault in an item.
- The contents of boxes packed by you, unless the damage is caused by our negligence (for example, a dropped box).
- The mechanical or electrical working of appliances and electronics, unless there is external damage caused by us.
- Particle board and flat-pack furniture, which can be damaged when moved or taken apart. We will take care, but moving these items is at your risk.
- Damage resulting from inadequate access at the pickup or delivery address, or from items you asked us to move against our advice.
- Loss of or damage to cash, jewellery, documents, medication, keys or other items listed in section 5.
- Delays caused by weather, road conditions or other circumstances beyond our control (see section 9).
- Consequential losses, including loss of use, loss of income or other indirect losses.
We strongly recommend you check that your home contents insurance covers your belongings while they are being moved, or arrange transit insurance for high-value items before moving day.
8. Damage and claims
Any claim for loss or damage must be made in writing to [email protected] no later than 7 working days after delivery, with photographs of the damage. We may ask to inspect the item before resolving a claim. Claims are resolved by repair, replacement or payment at our discretion, up to the limit in section 7.
9. Timeframes and delays
- Arrival and completion times are estimates only and are not guaranteed. We aim to arrive within the agreed time window.
- We are not responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, traffic, road closures (including the Remutaka Hill Road and State Highways 1 and 2), mechanical breakdown, or delays in key handovers between other parties.
- We will let you know as soon as practicable of any significant delay. If it is unsafe to move on the day, we will work with you to reschedule.
10. Cancellations and refunds
- Cancellations made more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time receive a full refund of the deposit.
- Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled start time incur a 15% cancellation fee, deducted from the deposit. The balance of the deposit is refunded.
- If our team arrives and the move cannot go ahead (for example no access, keys unavailable or items not ready), the deposit is forfeited.
- If we cancel a booking for reasons on our side, or because the weather makes moving unsafe, you receive a full refund of any payments made, or the next available date if you prefer.
See our Booking Policy for how to make and change a booking.
11. Packing supplies
Prices for boxes and packing materials are confirmed when you request them. Unused, undamaged supplies can be returned within 7 days for a refund. Faulty supplies will be replaced or refunded.
12. Storage
If we arrange storage for you, it will be billed through us and handled through us. Storage charges are quoted separately, and the storage facility’s own terms and conditions also apply while your goods are in storage.
13. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or other New Zealand law where those laws apply. If you are using our services for business purposes, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply to the extent permitted by law.
14. Privacy
We collect and hold personal information for the purpose of providing our services, and we do not share it with third parties except as needed to complete your move or as required by law. We handle your information in line with our Privacy Policy.
15. Disputes
Any dispute arising from our services should be raised with us in writing in the first instance, and we will endeavour to resolve it fairly and promptly. These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
16. Amendments
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, and the version published when you confirm your booking applies to your move.
